The city of Glenwood Springs is known for its proximity to the White
River National Forest, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to offering
hiking, biking and camping, the White River area is home to several ski resorts
that feature a variety of terrains for beginners and experts alike. The Colorado
River also provides several outdoor opportunities, with a number of guide companies
located in the region for visitors seeking a whitewater experience. For aerial
views of the surrounding area, guests can charter a hot air balloon and get above
the peaks. Terrestrial transportation is facilitated by the Roaring
Fork Transportation Authority's local bus system, which is free of charge and
runs seven days a week. A Christmas concert is held on the second Sunday of December
every year, filling the mountains with seasonal music.
